„Reminder: People Who Show You New Music Are Important“ steht auf einem Straßenschild, das als Fotografie gerade kreuz und quer bei Instagram von Musikblogs und Co geteilt wird – und dementsprechend wollen wir uns heute auch unsere Daseinsberechtigung erarbeiten und euch eine neue Künstlerin präsentieren, in die wir uns zuletzt schlagartig schockverliebt haben: Bei Julien Bakers Streaming-Show zuletzt im Vorprogramm entdeckt, gehört das musikalische Alter-Ego Mini Trees der in LA lebenden Lexi Vega gerade zu den für uns spannendsten Indie-Pop-Projekten der Szene – umso mehr, da die im Süden von Kalifornien geborene Musikerin heute endlich ihr Debütalbum Always In Motion für den 17. September über ihr neues Label-Zuhause Run For Cover Records ankündigt!
“Over the course of the album I teeter-totter between having questions and wanting answers, but the resolution is to be okay with not knowing. I think I do find some acceptance along the way, but the album purposefully concludes with no real resolution“, beschreibt die Newcomerin ihr Debütalbum, das sich mit den kollektiven Problemen der großen Lebensfragen beschäftigt. Gleichzeitig mit der Album-Ankündigung erscheint das schillernde Stück Carrying On, über das Vega sagt: “I wrote ‘Carrying On’ in the middle of 2020 when I was out in the desert escaping the city and reflecting on the unsettling new way of life we all had to adopt during the pandemic…Despite how in some ways life had begun to feel mundane again, there was a constant underlying fear that everything could unravel at any moment. In a sarcastic tone, the song questions my ability to hold it all together. We tried to capture this sentiment with the music video, displaying a character who is being led through the motions of day-to-day life, but beginning to recognize that something isn’t quite right.”
